You Busy In 2010?

Want to be in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games but haven't put in decades of training and sacrifice? Well the closest we're going to get is Olympic torch bearer.

RBC and Coke are both holding a contest to allow Canadian's 13 and over (by October 2009) a chance to be a Olympic torch bearer for the 2010 games.

This would be totally cool to do, except I'd be scared to death doing it. All those comments I've made over the years about torch bearers dropping the flame would come back to haunt me.

The official site has a great interactive map so you can see the route of the torch relay. The planned route will reach 90 percent of Canadian's, so chances are it'll be in your area sooner or later during the 106 day relay.

There are going to be at least 2350 slots open so your chances might not be that bad. Go enter now!

Just don't pick the 8th of December 2009 that's my day.

Canada’s Olympic Drought, Over!

All I can say it thank god we started winning some medals! I was starting to get worried there.

Although this has been my least watched Olympic Games ever (not from lack of interest, just lack of free time), I was still keeping an eye on the Canadian medal count. Unfortunately, for about a week the count was stuck at zero. I'm relived that we're not going to be walking away empty handed.

I am disappointed with the lack of sailing on CBC's on demand site, I would like to have seem some sailing and see how the pros do it.

Holy crap, way to go Australia!

Vancouver 2010 Mascots

The mascots for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games have been unveiled. They are dangerously high on the cute factor so be forewarned.

Here is a little info on the mascots taken from the official Vancouver 2010 site.

Each of the creatures is distinct and special – both in personality and in appearance. One is big, gentle and shy . . . one is small, mischievous and outgoing . . . and one is a natural-born leader with a passion for protecting the environment. All three are mythical creatures with roots in local legend. One is a sasquatch. One is a sea-bear. And one is an animal guardian spirit.

I totally love them and the promotional video is great. Very reminiscent of our old friend Katamari. And yes I'm sorry that you can't stop singing the Katamari song now.

Genesis Tour

The first band I ever saw live (along with my mom) is going on tour again. Genesis is doing 20 odd shows in Canada and the USA this coming year.

I'm temped to go but they are playing the Olympic Stadium, last time I needed binoculars to see the stage. And this was before the damn thing started falling apart. Plus I don't even want to know the price, even though in the press conference Phil Collins said that they want to charge the going rate. Having sold 130 million records they aren't doing it for the money.

With a week to my 30th birthday yet another reminder how old I am. I saw them when I was 15. Yikes! A little trivia, Genesis is the only band that (besides Sloan) that I have all their albums. Unfortunately they are almost all on tape. Again with the examples of my age. Yikes!

If you haven't caught on yet "Yikes" is my new catchy blogy term. Bloggy? Blogie? Blogé. Work in progress.

It was funny when I was in high school if you were into 70's progressive rock it was either Rush or Pink Floyd and i was into neither. I mean I got the Tom Swayer song and the giant Pig but I didn't own any CD's. And all the Rush and Pink Floyd kids weren't into Genesis. And outside of all that there was always that one damn kid who would have had the Doors love child if they could have.
