StarCraft 2 Play By Play

I'm pretty excited about StarCraft 2 coming out sometime in 2009 (in time for my birthday? Please?). Blizzard has released a video of an alpha map being played by two associate game balance designers.

What's a real add to the video is the running commentary. Having never played the game you can get some really good insight to game play dynamics and strengths and weaknesses of the new units.

I just hope my already 2 and a half year old system won't be that long in the tooth to play the game. A 3ghz box doesn't mean what it used to.

Knowing Blizzard's other games, there will be quite a good story driving the single player campaign. It must be since they are going to make it a trilogy and there will be three games to tell it

Plague Movies Do Not Help One’s Hypochondria

This past week I watched both the BBC's remake of Survivors and Doomsday.

Not the best thing to watch when I can be bit of a hypochondriac.

Doomsday was okay, kind of a modern Mad Max. Even the over the top gore was reminiscent of 1980's horror movies. Fun, but not thought provoking.

Back in the 1980's I watched most of the old Survivors series on PBS and I was looking forward to the remake.

It's got high production value and a great ensemble cast. It's based in reality, unlike other ensemble cast shows like Lost, Heroes or zombie survival films. If there was a global pandemic to wipe out millions again, this is what it probably would look like.

I've only seen the first two episodes so far and I can't wait for more.

One thing the new Survivors series points out even more than the 1970's one, is how dependent on technology we have become. The survivors of the Black Death at the very least had the skills needed to rebuild society. Anyone here know how to farm or make clothes from raw materials?

More Hodgman Than You Require

John Hodgman, everyone's favorite minor television personality and purveyor of totally ture made up facts is back with a new book More Information Than You Require.

To promote his new book he's been making the rounds of some of my favorite internet shows.

Jodgman has recently been a guest on two episodes of You Look Nice Today along with Jonathan Coulton.

Selfish Express
Faux Tog

Also Jodgman has promoted his book on Boing Boing TV and appeared into miniseries SPAMasterpiece Theater.

Leo Laporte of TWIT interviewed Hodgman about his role as the PC in the Apple adds.

Second Watchmen Trailer

The second Watchmen trailer is out. I can't wait for this film, it's going to be so good.

With recent comic book blockbuster movies like Batman, Iron Man, Hellboy & Spider-Man I feel a little vindicated for liking comic books all these years. At the very least I get all the nuances to the films.

UPDATE: Thanks Belldandy for the tip.

Maybe I'll have to wait even longer to see Watchmen as their is a law suit going on as to which movie studio has the rights to distribute it.

Perhaps "Who watches the Watchmen" might end up being no one. Hopefully not.

Bike Hero

If you haven't seen it, here's the viral marketing Guitar Hero video that was made to promote the new game (that I bought for Christmas as a family gift and it's hidden away till the 25th). Regardless of it's professional source it is still fun to watch.

Guitar Hero virtuoso Freddie Wong took offense to the viral video and did his own version of Bike Hero. While it doesn't have the step up of the first video it does show off his amazing Guitar Hero skills and bike riding sans hands.

The Band’s Back Together

Last Friday to celebrate the end of summer / Labour Day weekend we had a corn roast at work.

My co-worker Christ sang and I accompanied on my guitar. We only had two days to practice and I hadn't played so much guitar in three to four years. We only did three songs, but I believe in quality over quantity.

These are some other videos posted on YouTube from some of my co-workers. Wow, multiple camera show!

Go To Montreal, Collect $200

Thanks to all my FaceBook friends for bringing this to my attention.

Earlier this year, Hasbro held an online vote as to which world cities would be included in the new Monolopy Here & Now World Edition.

Today it was announced that Montreal tops the list of the new game along with fellow Canadian cites Toronto and Vancouver. Only China has the same number of cities represented on the new board layout.

While I am excited and can't wait to buy this version, I do realize it will quite a few years until we can play as a family around the dinner table.

I understand that modernization of such a classic is inevitable but I feel nestoligic for some of the old mainstays left behind in the name of progress. The paper money and the time it took to count out what was owed is now replaced by an electronic debit system. So long to Water Works and Electric Company and hello to Wind Power and Solar Energy. And passing Go now fetches you a two million dollar payday.

On the other hand, than debit machine better do me some good when it comes to figuring out the Luxury Tax and the mortgaging of property when you are dealing in the millions. Thanks mom for all those years of math help.

The local news also covered the announcement.

Did your city make the game? Any you think shouldn't have?

Beijing might have got the Olympics, but Montreal got Monopoly!

Doctor Horrible

A tweet of mine got picked by non affiliated to Twitter, Pick of the Twitter.

Should I be excited? Or does this mean you just have mention a tech personality, iTunes and the latest Josh Wedon project to get indexed?

What you haven't hear of Joss Wedon's latest project? For shame!

It's called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. It stars Neil Patrick Harris (who's awesome!), Nathan Fillion & Felicia Day. It's a super funny musical take on the super hero genera. Catch it free while you can online. If you miss it, you might try getting it on iTunes for a few dollars if you can't wait for the odvious DVD release.

Check out the mini comic on Dark Horse's MySpace page of Captain Hammer or buy some t-shirts over on Jinx.

I so hope we are going to see some more of these mini episodes from Joss Wedon in the future! I really commend Wedon on trying out a new format and distribution model for Dr. Horrible. Hopefully this will show the big studios and networks that you can make money by giving away your media.
